March 12, 2015 — Looking for a reason to visit Washington, D.C., next week? The Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital — billed as the “largest and longest-standing environmental film festival in the United States” — is the place to be March 17–29.
Now in its 23rd year, the film festival will feature over 150 films and is expected to pull in an audience in excess of 33,000 moviegoers.
The festival will kick off with a screening of Bikes vs. Cars by director Fredrik Gertten, a Swedish filmmaker and journalist. Hidden gems can be found throughout the 13-day event, including the trailer above for Return of the River — a stunning documentary detailing efforts to remove two large dams in the American West.
Other films will focus on pandas being successfully reintroduced to their native habitat in China, the impacts of animal agriculture on the environment and efforts to get kids back into nature.
