Julia Ekstrom

Climate Adaptation Program director, University of California Davis Policy Institute
Julia (Julie) Ekstrom is the Climate Adaptation Initiative Director at the UC Davis Policy Institute. She is a social scientist with expertise in climate change adaptation and vulnerability, coastal and marine management, and governance analysis.

Before joining the Policy Institute, Julie was at the Natural Resources Defense Council, where she led a two year study on social vulnerability and human risk to ocean acidification (supported by the NSF SESYNC). As a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (2009-2012), she analyzed the intricacies of local and regional level climate adaptation efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area. Also as part of California’s Third Climate Assessment, she synthesized the state of the climate science for California and the San Francisco Bay Area. Previously, Julie was a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University developing software for analyzing environmental governance. Julie received her PhD in Marine Science from UC Santa Barbara and her Bachelors of Science from UC Berkeley in Conservation and Resource Studies.
