INN accelerates and shapes the emerging field of nonprofit news.
Where INN’s member organizations thrive, informed communities debate critical issues, facts hold, citizens vote, and abuses of power are challenged. INN’s work is a catalyst for democratic action everywhere.
INN’s growth runs parallel to the continued decline of traditional U.S. newspapers, which have cut tens of thousands of jobs and left behind more than 2,100 “news deserts.” In contrast, INN membership has increased tenfold to more than 300 over the past decade and includes some of the most admired and innovative news outlets in America. With 2,500 journalists spanning all 50 states, the INN network provides reporting on a scale similar to National Public Radio and its member stations.
